About a dozen local Boy Scouts and adult scouting leaders volunteered at the request of the Surry County Board of Elections to help out with the recent election day activities.
The Scouts volunteered to unload, transport, and sort for storage the mass of election supplies that were delivered by precinct workers from the county’s 29 precincts back to the Surry County Courthouse after the polls closed on Tuesday evening.
The Scouts and leaders who volunteered were part of Troop 591, sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Dobson, and from Troop 529, sponsored by the Dobson United Methodist Church.
The Scouts and their leaders worked from about 7 p.m. until 10 p.m., unloading cars and vans and carting the unloaded materials into the courthouse down to the offices of the Board of Elections via an elevator and various hallways.
