• A Virginia woman was jailed under a $52,000 secured bond early Monday as a fugitive from justice from that state, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports. Kaitlyn Victoria Dodson, 23, of Radford, also was charged with local drug violations as a result of police encountering her during a suspicious-vehicle investigation in the parking lot of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church on Rockford Street.
After Dodson was taken into custody on a fugitive-from-justice warrant, for which no details were listed, she gave police consent to search her vehicle — leading to violations of possession of up to a half-ounce of marijuana, possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Dodson is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court next Thursday.
• In connection with the same incident, Heather Marie VanHorn, 22, of 1773 Wards Gap Road, Cana, Virginia, was arrested and held under a $10,000 secured bond on a felony charge of identity theft by obtaining/possession another person’s ID. She also was charged with three misdemeanors: resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer; possession of up to a half-ounce of marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia other than for marijuana. VanHorn allegedly provided an ID card to claim she was someone named Casey Poindexter, and upon arriving at the police station fled on foot and was captured moments later. Her court date is March 28.
• Six pairs of women’s shoes valued at $ 294 were stolen Tuesday from Shoe Show in Mayberry Mall by an unknown suspect.
• An unknown suspect stole multiple items Monday from store shelves at Dollar General on South Main Street. The merchandise was not specified.
• Charine Rosenbourgh, 57, listed as homeless, was jailed Monday under a $200 secured bond on a second-degree trespassing violation at Comfort Inn on Newsome Street, from which she had been banned in August. The woman is scheduled to be in Surry District Court on Feb. 8.
• A 30-foot travel trailer and other property, representing a total loss of at least $19,350, were discovered missing last Friday from a lot at Mayberry Campground on Bunker Lane. Taken along with the $10,000 Coachmen Spirit of America trailer, white in color and bearing West Virginia license number R141210, were a generator, compressor, hitch and sway bars, three television sets, a radio, clothing items including shoes and coats, eight chairs, two fishing poles, two tents, a fire pit, miscellaneous games, household goods, a grill, hot and cold water hoses, tools, bedding, a Blu-ray player, camper accessories, non-perishable foods and a dehumidifier. Kevin James Knowles of Martinsburg, West Virginia, is the victim of the crime.
• Christy Nicole Bright, 25, of 2978 Old Highway 601, was arrested last Friday on outstanding warrants for charges of obtaining property by false pretense, a felony, and larceny, which had been issued on Dec. 30 in Iredell County. Bright was taken into custody after police encountered her in the Walmart parking lot and confined in the Surry County Jail under a $2,500 secured bond. She is scheduled to appear in court in Iredell on Feb. 7.
• Police were told on Jan.12 that a case involving larceny and the obtaining of property by false pretense had occurred at Walmart. An unknown suspect stole merchandise, identified as a sheet/pillowcase set valued at $95, then returned it for money.
• Micaela Brooke Hodges, 24, of Jonesville, is facing violations of larceny and possession of stolen goods, which were filed on Jan. 12 after she allegedly took clothing items valued at $182 at 210 Moore Ave., the address for Poppy’s Designer Resale Boutique. Hodges’ court date is Feb. 28.
• Walmart was the scene of a theft on Jan. 12, when three unknown suspects stole a Dremel 7300 4.8-volt, two-speed cordless rotary tool valued at $24.
