• Equipment and tools valued at $1,148 were reported stolen Monday from a construction site at former Spencer’s Inc. property on Willow Street downtown, according to Mount Airy Police Department records. Among the property missing were a DeWalt circular saw, impact driver, sawzall and 18-volt battery; a Bostitch brad nailer; a Craftsman right-angle drill and a Craftsman battery; a Keen cable cutter; a tool box with assorted tools; channel locks; pliers; and a 10-in-one screwdriver.

The victims of the crime, which is believed to have occurred during the weekend, are R&L Construction of Mount Airy and Spencer’s Properties, LLC.

• Jennifer Bowman Luffman, 39, of 1644 Bud Tilley Road, Pinnacle, was cited on a charge of larceny Monday at Northern Hospital of Surry County, involving unspecified property valued at $95 which was recovered and turned over to hospital security. Luffman is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on May 3 and has been banned from the hospital.

• Also Monday, a theft was discovered at McCray’s Auto Sales on North Andy Griffith Parkway, where a lock was cut to gain entry to the lot and enable the theft of a battery valued at $100 from a 2002 Ford Super Duty pickup.

• Amber Renee Hester, 28, of 221 Mayberry Ave., was held under a $10,000 secured bond Thursday after being arrested on warrants for felony charges of obtaining property by false pretense and attempting to obtain property by false pretense which had been filed in the city on March 27, with no other details listed. Warrants also were served on Hester for five felonies filed in Surry County on Jan. 19, including larceny of a firearm, two counts of attempting to obtain property by false pretense and two counts of possession of stolen property. She is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on May 9.

• Circle K on Rockford Street was the scene of a larceny Thursday, when an unknown suspect took two 24-ounce glass bottles of Corona beer valued at $6.

• Also Thursday, a royal blue Ohio hoodie valued at $27 was stolen from Rite Aid on East Lebanon Street by an unknown party.

• A city man was jailed under a $50,000 secured bond as a fugitive from justice on March 28. Thomas David McCraw, 55, of 504 Rockford St., was served with warrants for arrest on unspecified charges after he was located at a medical office on West Independence Boulevard. McCraw is scheduled to be in District Court on May 17.

• An octagonically shaped gold 14-karat wedding band valued at $500 was discovered missing on March 28 at Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation Center on Allred Mill Road. The owner of the ring is Lucille Woodall, 88, a resident of the nursing home.

• Walgreens on East Independence Boulevard was the scene of a theft on March 28, when L’Oreal Revitalift face cream valued at $18 was taken by a known suspect. A police incident report states that no charges were immediately filed in the case.

• Melissa Dawn Whitt, 25, of 218 Atkins Lane, was served on March 27 with a criminal summons on a larceny offense which had been filed on March 15 through the Elkin Police Department, with no other details given. Whitt’s court date is May 26.

• Gary Christopher Hicinbothem, 23, of 131 North View Drive, Pilot Mountain, was arrested on felony charges of larceny by anti-inventory device (referring to the alleged removal of a device for the purpose of theft and possession of methamphetamine on March 18 at an unspecified business in Forrest Oaks Shopping Center on Rockford Street.) Hicinbothem, who also is accused on possession of drug paraphernalia, was held in the Surry County Jail under a $3,000 secured bond and slated for a May 2 appearance in District Court.
