Three high school seniors received a scholarship of $1,000 each from the John Walker Sunday School Class at Grace Moravian Church recently. They are Haley France and Clarice Matthews who graduated from Carroll County High School in Hillsville, Virginia, and Abbey Stone who graduated from North Surry High School.
Ray Key, representing the John Walker class, presented the awards.
Haley will attend Radford University, and Clarice will be going to Liberty University.
Abbey is going to the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and plans to major in communication sciences and disorders and minor in sign language.
These scholarships honor the late Margaret Leonard who lived in Virginia and was a teacher and principal in Carroll County for many years. She also taught the John Walker class for 28 years. This class has given more than 50 scholarships to boys and girls to help them achieve their goals and dreams.
