The Salvation Army Corps of Mount Airy welcomes Lieutenants Jeffrey and Lea Brooks to their church and community.
The Brooks both graduated from Mars Hill University, near Asheville, in 2012. The Brooks answered God’s call to ministry and service and attended The Salvation Army’s College for Officer Training in Atlanta. Commissioned in June, Mount Airy is their first appointment.
The Salvation Army Corps of Mount Airy offers local social service assistance. Last year, the group served approximately 5,000 individuals in this area. At Christmas, it distributed around 20,000 toys and gifts to families in Surry and Alleghany counties in North Carolina as well as Carroll and Patrick counties inVirginia.
The Salvation Army is not only a place to go for financial assistance; it’s a church. Sunday school begins at 10 a.m., followed by Holiness/Worship Service in the chapel at 11 a.m. Mid-week service begins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, followed by Women’s Home League fellowship. The group also has a Men’s Club and special programs for youth. This year, their monthly Bible study has a homegrown theme: Mayberry Bible Study, which highlights the gospel that connects with The Andy Griffith Show.
The Brooks have great plans for The Salvation Army of Mount Airy, which include being more visible in the community, increasing youth and young adult church attendance, renovations to the building, and beautification and updates to the Family Store.
