NC 5th District Rep. Virginia Foxx recently toured Millennium Charter Academy, where she received recognition from the Associated Builders and Contractors of the Carolinas.
Foxx joined Millennium Headmaster Kirby McCrary, Chris Bullard of the contractors group and Beth Green of Omega Construction, on a tour of the recently completed academy and viewed ongoing gymnasium construction.
“I’ve said many times that charter schools provide students with the opportunity to receive a high-quality and innovative education,” the congresswoman said. “Under the leadership of Headmaster McCrary, I believe the students of Millennium Charter Academy have a very bright future and great opportunities ahead.”
While on the tour, she was presented with the group’s Merit Shop Champion Eagle award.
The Associated Builders and Contractors is a national construction industry trade association. Annually, the group recognizes legislators from North and South Carolina who have what it considers an 80 percent or better voting record during sessions of Congress on construction-friendly issues.
“This year, ABC of the Carolinas presented Congresswoman Virginia Foxx with the Champion of the Merit Shop Eagle Award for her better than 85 percent voting record,” the group said.
“The construction business is made up of incredibly hard-working and creative people,” Foxx said. “ABC successfully represents more than 20,000 members and has more than 70 chapters across the nation. ABC shares my belief that the construction industry builds our economy as well as our schools and homes. I’m honored that ABC awarded me with the Merit Shop Champion Eagle award for my recognition of the significant contribution that the industry makes to our economy and our community. “
She also had remarks for Omega Construction, the Pilot Mountain-based firm doing the work at the charter academy.
“While viewing the beautiful campus, I had the chance to look under the hood of the ongoing construction. Omega Construction has done a great job of providing both a very functional and an extremely pleasant aesthetic space. I congratulate them on completing so much, so quickly. They’ve built a great campus in which students can thrive.”
