• Anthony Briggs Church Bottoms, 26, no address listed, was arrested Saturday on offenses including resisting, obstructing or delaying a public officer, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports. Bottoms was encountered by officers at a location in the 1500 block of South Main Street, where he allegedly provided false information and was taken into custody on the resisting violation resulting from that, and an outstanding order for arrest for failing to appear in court filed on Aug. 29.

Bottoms was held in the Surry County Jail under a $3,500 secured bond and slated for an Oct. 27 District Court appearance.

• Also Saturday, violations of concealment of merchandise and possession of drug paraphernalia were issued against Jessica Jordan Gravitte, 23, of 135 Carolina Ave., at an unidentified business located at 449 N. Andy Griffith Parkway. Gravitte allegedly concealed property valued at $17, with the paraphernalia identified as four used needles. She is scheduled to be in District Court on Nov. 16.

• A motor vehicle was discovered stolen last Thursday from a local used-car business. The white 2003 Ford F-150 extended cab pickup valued at $5,700 was taken from Phillips Motor Co. on West Lebanon Street.

• Gary Christopher Hicinbothem, 24, of 151 Washington Ave., was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine, a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia on Sept. 21 after being encountered by police at Walmart. After a brief investigation, a plastic baggy containing a crystal-like substance was located near the rear tire of a 2003 Honda Pilot from which Hicinbothem had exited, according to police records. He was jailed under a $1,000 secured bond and is to appear in Surry District Court on Nov. 14.

• Nathan Scott Newman, 17, of 215 Barney Venable Road, Pilot Mountain, was confined in the Surry County Jail on Sept. 17 on violations of hit and run, driving while impaired, a provisional licensee violation, possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia. The offenses were issued after police encountered Newman on Carter Street at U.S. 52 during a traffic crash investigation. He was held under a $1,000 secured bond, with Nov. 20 his court date.
