• A Mount Airy woman was arrested Sunday and charged with hit and run/leaving the scene of an accident, according to city police department reports. Janice Goins Gordon, 58, of 2858 S. Main St., was encountered by police at Circle K on Rockford Street during an investigation of a traffic crash involving a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer she was driving, for which other details were not listed. Gordon was released on a written promise to appear in Surry District Court on Jan. 19.
• Property valued at more than $900 was discovered missing Saturday from the back of a 1994 Toyota SRX pickup owned by David Ray York, including a Briggs & Stratton pressure washer, red and black in color; a brown and white Stihl leaf blower; and a brown and white Stihl weedeater. The theft occurred while the vehicle was at York’s home on Jackson Road.
• Billie Jean Campbell, 41, of 528 E. Haymore St., was cited for larceny and possession of stolen goods last Thursday at Walmart, where police encountered her during a disturbance. She allegedly was found with unspecified stolen property that was turned back over to the store. Campbell is scheduled to be in District Court on Jan. 27.
• James Brandon Odum, 34, of 473 Slate Road, was arrested on Dec. 22 after a traffic stop on Willow Street at Franklin Street on the suspicion that he had stolen clothing from Belk at Mayberry Mall, which was found during a subsequent investigation along with controlled narcotics for which Odum had no prescriptions. He was charged with felonious larceny, felonious possession of stolen property, an order for arrest for failing to appear in court which had been filed on Dec. 16 and possession of Schedule IV controlled substances (clonazepam, lorazepam and diazepam, 39 dosage units altogether). Odum was held in the Surry County Jail under a $300 secured bond and is to be in District Court on Feb. 22.
• A red 15.5-foot canoe, a black trailer for hauling canoes and 16 aluminum tee handle paddles — valued at $9,050 altogether — were discovered missing on Dec. 20 from an unidentified business location on Mount View Drive. Central United Methodist Church on North Main Street is listed as the victim of the crime.
• Allen Dayton Worrell, 53, of 632 Sunset Drive, was arrested on charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and assault by pointing a gun on Dec. 19 after police encountered Worrell during a domestic call at his home. He was jailed under a $10,000 secured bond and slated for a Feb. 26 District Court appearance.
• Also on Dec. 19, police learned of a case of financial transaction card fraud which involved an unknown suspect using a counterfeit Visa debit card to obtain miscellaneous items valued at about $275 from Food Lion on South Andy Griffith Parkway. The victim was identified as Jonathan L. Taylor of Raleigh, an employee of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
• Property including a PlayStation gaming system, 20 miscellaneous PlayStation games and a bookbag was stolen on Dec. 16 from a Chevrolet S10 Blazer that was entered through an unsecured door while in a parking area at Mayberry Mall. Tracey Dale Hayes and Terry Dean Hayes of Snody Road are the victims of the crime.
