DOBSON — Scott Ryan Gene, 42, of Blue Ridge Road, State Road, reported his golf clubs and equipment and a company iPhone, with a total value of $900, lost down a drain at the Cedarbrook Country Club golf course in State Road. According to Sgt. J.D. Briles of the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, Gene reported the loss to the sheriff but not to the club.
Officers were informed by club representatives that a golf cart carrying the items had rolled down a hill and into a 12-foot hole near the eighth hole of the course. “Apparently there’s rough terrain at that particular hole,” Briles said. “It was not the first time an incident had occurred.”
• Jeremy Aaron Collins, 25, of Shelton Avenue, Statesville, was charged on Dec. 16 with one count of felony indecent liberties with a child, misdemeanor child abuse and assault on a child under 12. Bond was set at $10,000 unsecured with a court date of Jan. 8, 2016. Briles said of the relatively low bond, “I can speculate that I know Collins was cooperating with the investigation. The magistrate probably took that into account.”
• Barry Wayne Hall, 38, of Quaker Road, Mount Airy, was charged on Dec. 20 with 14 counts of obtaining property by false pretense on warrants issued in Rowan County and with a fugitive order stemming from a Texas grand jury indictment. Bond was set at $47,500 with a Rowan County court date of Jan. 4, 2016.
• Janice Stegall Thomas, 67, of Doris Lane, Mount Airy, reported on Dec. 22 an identity theft where her information was used to open a credit card. According to Sgt. J.D. Briles of the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, her information was used to open a Walmart credit card, which is a common occurrence. The incident is under investigation. “With Walmart cases we typically have good luck getting them solved because they have such a good fraud department,” Briles said.
• Edward Lee Childress, 62, of Roberts Road, Mount Airy, was charged on Dec. 19 with two counts each of larceny of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm, and one count of misdemeanor possession of stolen property. Bond was set at $26,000 with a court date of Jan. 28.
• Taylor Brooke Goad, 20, of Pool Trail, Mount Airy, was charged on Dec. 21 with 12 counts of breaking and entering, nine counts of larceny after breaking and entering, and four counts of larceny of a firearm. According to Briles, Goad allegedly removed jewelry and tools from a home she had access to and returned several times. “That’s what resulted in this many charges,” he said. Bond was set at $5,000 with a court date of Jan. 19.
• David Eric Surratt, 41, of Maple Hollow Road, Mount Airy, reported a breaking and entering on Dec. 27, after returning home from vacation. According to the report, two flat screen televisions were stolen along with a laptop computer, a set of golf bags and case. The value of the items totaled about $2,000.
• A motor vehicle accident is under investigation by the State Highway Patrol, following a report made to the sheriff’s office on Dec. 22 by representatives from Mount Vernon Baptist Church, on West Pine Street, Lowgap. According to the report, a $250 glass door and brick foundation were damaged. Investigators believe a car backed into the church.
• Rebecca Childress Sanchez, of Bullington Road, Pinnacle, reported on Dec. 19 that her license plate and vehicle battery were stolen.
• Steven Howard Porter, of N.C. 268, Dobson, reported a $3,000 motor stolen from an out-building.
• A breaking and entering was reported on Dec. 20 at Hull Lumber Company on Maple Hollow Road, Mount Airy. A door was broken and a suspect or suspects forced their way into the business office. A Cardinal scale valued at $2,000 was stolen along with various office supplies, antique wrenches and a box of Foothills sugar cured ham, with a total value of $560.
• An attempted breaking and entering was reported on Dec. 20 at Genesis Full Gospel Baptist Church, of Sparger Road, Mount Airy. According to the report, a $200 tin shroud for an ac unit was damaged.
• Officers are investigating video surveillance that may provide leads to a breaking and entering reported on Dec. 20 at Level Cross General Store, on N.C. 268 in Dobson. Thirty-six fishing rods, $60 cash, 12 cartons of Marlboro lights valued at $600, seven ABU Garcia fishing reels valued at $1,043, and three Abu Garcia fishing reels valued at $519, were listed stolen. The front window and side door lock were damaged, valued at $500.
• Mary Francis Owens, 73, of Precinct Road, Pilot Mountain, reported on Dec. 19 her $1,000 log/wood splitter stolen from a shed behind her residence.
• Grady Lee Bowman, 67, Citation Lane 54, Mount Airy, reported a $1,600 tow dolly stolen.
