DOBSON — Five Mount Airy residents arrested following a narcotics raid at two Oak Grove Church Road homes were identified in a statement released Friday by Surry County Sheriff Graham Atkinson.
About 20 deputies with the sheriff’s Special Enforcement Team and Narcotics Division entered the two neighboring homes before dawn Thursday morning.
The homes, residents and those who frequented the locations had frequently been the source of citizen complaints, the sheriff said of the investigation.
Eight people were secured during the four-hour search, which revealed a stolen rifle as well as various quantities of controlled substances including marijuana, methamphetamine, Diazepam and paraphernalia.
“At 716 Oak Grove Church Road, the investigators found small quantities of methamphetamine throughout the residence with the largest single amount located inside a vehicle parked in the driveway,” Atkinson stated.
John Lawrence Scales, 54, who was the only resident present at 726 Oak Grove Church Road during the raid, was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a stolen firearm, with bond set at $5,000 secured.
Terry Jones Long, 57, of 716 Oak Grove Church Road, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a drug dwelling, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was held under a $5,000 secured bond.
Jimmy Mack Long, 34, of 716 Oak Grove Church Road, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a drug dwelling, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia with bond set at $25,000 secured.
Harold James Beamer, 52, of Beamer Road, Mount Airy, was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and held under a $2,500 secured bond.
Chelsea Elizabeth Parker, 28, of Sycamore Lane, Hillsville, Virginia., was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia and held under a $1,100 secured bond.
All five are scheduled to appear in court on March 23.
