DOBSON — A Mount Airy man accused of spitting on an officer was sent to prison after pleading guilty in an administrative session of Superior Court recently.
William Christopher Poff, of Dinosaur Lane, was convicted of malicious conduct by a prisoner, which is a class F felony.
Court documents indicate that while in the custody of the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, Poff did “emit a bodily fluid, saliva” at a law enforcement officer who was attempting to subdue him for arrest.
The defendant also pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of assault of a government official.
Charges of resisting a public officer and communicating threats were dismissed through a plea agreement.
A domestic violence protective order violation was also dismissed at the request of the prosecuting witness, and the underlying 50B protective order was dismissed as well.
Poff was ordered to serve 30 to 45 months in the custody of the Department of Adult Corrections with 238 days credit for time served.
Other matters of the court addressed during the administrative session:
• Ronnie Lee Blevins, 33, of Haystack Road, Dobson, will serve time in prison following a felony drug conviction and several misdemeanors.
On May 23, Blevins pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, which is a felony, possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods and property, driving while license revoked, not impaired, driving while license revoked, impaired, operating a vehicle with no insurance and operating a vehicle with no registration.
He was given an active sentence of five to 15 months with 100 days credit for time served.
Probation was revoked for a misdemeanor out of county probation violation, activating a one-year sentence with 109 days credit.
• Donald Ray Burkhart, 43, of East Pine Street, Mount Airy, was ordered to serve a 90-day Confinement in Response to Violation (CRV) after admitting to a felony probation violation.
Burkhart had been placed on supervised probation for 18 months following a February 2015 conviction of possession of a firearm by a felon.
His probation was extended for 18 months.
• On May 24, Teresa Koehler Cecil, 44, of Hickory Street, Mount Airy, was ordered to serve 90 days at Black Mountain treatment center for a felony probation violation.
The defendant had been placed on supervised probation for a conviction of sale or delivery of a schedule II controlled substance.
• A felony probation violation was dismissed for Jeremy Brent Harvey, 25, of Rockford Street. Harvey had pleaded guilty by Alford decision to larceny of a motor vehicle in June 2013 and placed on supervised probation for 30 months. The violation was dismissed because Harvey was compliant with payment of monies owed.
• Scottie Dale Manring, 42, of Valley Green Trail, Pilot Mountain, was ordered to serve a 90-day CRV for a felony probation violation. His probation is to be terminated after completing the CRV.
Manring had been placed on probation after pleading guilty to the lesser charge of felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance in March 2013.
• Hannah Leigh Settle, 17, of Elkin Highway 268, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of misdemeanor possession of stolen goods and property, which was reduced from a felony charge of the same.
She also pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges of simple possession of drug paraphernalia, simple possession of a schedule IV controlled substance and a license or permit time limit violation.
Settle was given an intermediate sentence which included serving one week in the Surry County Jail beginning August 29.
A 45-day sentence was suspended pending the successful completion of 18 months of supervised probation.
• A Mount Airy man will serve an active sentence after pleading guilty to three counts of attempted trafficking opium or heroin and several other drug charges on May 23.
Jacob Aaron Shinault, 21, of Maple Grove Church Road, faced three counts of trafficking opium or heroin, and pleaded guilty to reduced charges.
He also pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a drug vehicle or dwelling, sale or delivery of marijuana, possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, assault on a female, possession of drug paraphernalia, communicating threats and harassing phone call.
A charge of simple possession of a schedule IV controlled substance was dismissed through a plea agreement.
Shinault was ordered to serve five to 15 months in the Department of Adult Corrections with 83 days credit for time served.
At the expiration of that sentence, he is to be placed on supervised probation for 36 months with an additional 16 to 29 months suspended.
