• A statue of a dog, valued at $800, was stolen Saturday from Bark and Meow on North Main Street downtown, according to Mount Airy Police Department reports. The statue, which depicts a boxer bulldog, was taken by an unknown party.
• Nancy Diane Davis, 42, of 6286 W. Pine St., was arrested Saturday on charges of larceny and possession of stolen goods after she allegedly took clothing items and perfume valued at $746 from Belk in Mayberry Mall. Davis was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $2,500 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in District Court on Jan. 12. Police records state that restitution of $118 is owed in the case.
• Police were advised Friday that eight checks with a total value of $384 had been fraudulently cashed at Food Lion on West Lebanon Street by an unknown suspect. The check owner who is listed as the victim of the crime that involves the obtaining of property by false pretense is Doris Louise Findley of West Lebanon Street.
• Violations of careless and reckless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia were filed against Brooke Adora Gail Hawks, 19, of 2022 Turkey Ford Road, on Nov. 15, after she allegedly was observed driving recklessly in a parking area at Walmart, where Hawks is employed. After police stopped the vehicle at Waffle House nearby, a glass smoking device was observed in plain view. Hawks is to be in Surry District Court on Dec. 6.
• Damage to city property was discovered on Nov. 12 at Tharrington Park, where an unknown suspect pushed a porta-john into a ditch and drove recklessly across the park grounds before striking a wooden fence and fleeing the scene. The damage total was put at $250.
• Bobby Keith Jessup Jr., 52, listed as homeless, was cited for soliciting on Nov. 11 in the Walmart parking area after being banned the same day. When encountered by police, Jessup was in possession of a sign used to solicit money and malt beverages, according to police records, which state that he was found intoxicated in a wooded area near the business. Jessup’s court date is Feb. 15.
