The Surry Arts Council will present “Disney’s Aladdin JR.” this weekend at the Andy Griffith Playhouse.

The movie version of “Aladdin,” starring Robin Williams, has become a modern classic. This musical version follows the street urchin, Aladdin (played by Ricky Lineberry) as he vies for the attention of the beautiful Princess Jasmine (played by Madison Lawson). A genie (played by Django Burgess) uses his magic power to make Aladdin a prince. The path to true love is never smooth, though, and Aladdin is thwarted by Jafar (played by Evan Barnard) and his sidekick Iago (played by Raegan Amos).

The cast is made up entirely of children, ages 6 to 18, and includes: Alex Bowers at the Sultan; Autumn Blakemore as Razoul; Anika Burgess and Olivia Dotson as the Magic Carpet; Callie Edmonds, Juliana Cooke, Emma Brady, Gwen Bode, and Brooksie Lawson as Narrators; Peyton Alexandria, Cierra Bullins, Emma Collins, Zoe Collins, Daphne Dotson, and Molly Easter as Guards; Walker York as Prince Baba of Ganoush; Max Barnard as 16 Prince Dahdu Rahn-Rahn; Michael Senter as The Prince formerly known as the Artist; and Elena Banas, Martina Banas, Charlotte Banfield, Juliet Barnard, Zinnia Burgess, Natalie Cockerham, Mimi Emmerich, Abigail Gerber, Emma Hiatt, Sophia Hutchens, Alex Masters, Cooper Mauck, Gabe Mauck, Heather Nicole Sawyers, Ta’Mar Shrewsbury, Lauren Willard, and Maddie Youell in the Ensemble.

The production is directed by Amanda Barnard. Barnard has previously directed “Alienated” at the Surry Arts Council and also leads the Teen Drama Workshop.

“These kids are incredible,” she said. “They have worked hard and created a wonderful show. I’m so proud of them.”

Joining the production team is Susan Gentry as musical director, Joey Marion as choreographer, Abby Brady as assistant director, Betsy Manieri as stage manager, and Josh Wilmoth as assistant stage manager.

“Disney’s Aladdin JR.” will show Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for ages 12 and younger and can be purchased online at www.surryarts.org, by phone at (336) 786-7998, or at the office (218 Rockford Street) Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
