A Mount Airy man has been charged with 15 offenses, including eight felonies, stemming from break-ins and property damage at various locations where he allegedly smashed windows with rocks.
Nicholas Cody Hull, 26, of 925 N. South St., was being held in the Surry County Jail Friday under a $20,000 secured bond, after his arrest Thursday by the Mount Airy Police Department.
Hull is charged with crimes that occurred on West Pine Street involving two businesses, including one that was victimized twice, and four vehicles. The incidents were reported during a period spanning from June 16 to this past Monday.
The businesses involved were the Pastelicious bakery and Dance Works Studio, which are located in adjacent suites in the 900 block of West Pine Street.
• Two separate incidents were reported at Pastelicious, one that was discovered on June 16 and the other on Sunday. In both, a rock was thrown through the glass front door to gain entry, with the damage listed at $300 for each. In the first incident, an undisclosed sum of cash was stolen. While nothing was listed as missing from the second break-in, additional damage of $80 was reported to a metal patio chair that apparently also was used in an attempt to break-in.
• The crime at Dance Works was discovered Tuesday, which involved a rock being used to break the front door glass, causing damage estimated at $200. No actual entry of the building occurred, and nothing was listed as missing.
Regarding the crimes at Pastelicious, Hull is charged with two counts of felonious breaking and entering along with felony larceny and two counts of damage to property.
He is charged with attempted felonious breaking and entering and damage to property at Dance Works Studio.
In addition, Hull is accused of three counts of felonious breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and three counts of damage to property at NAPA Auto Parts on West Pine Street. Those crimes were reported Tuesday.
Hull further is charged with another felony breaking and entering of a motor vehicle count and an additional damage to property violation at Henson’s Auto Parts on West Pine Street, also reported Tuesday.
Capt. Alan Freeman said Friday that city police were able to link Hull to the crimes through video evidence — “surveillance videos from a couple of locations.”
Similar incidents occurred at two other businesses in the city during the same time frame, which also involved rocks being thrown. These included Essence Nails and Spa on West Independence Boulevard and Sarah’s Beauty Boutique on Moore Avenue, where an undisclosed sum of cash was stolen.
Hull has not been charged in those cases, based on a breakdown of violations released Friday.
He is scheduled to appear in Surry District Court on July 7.
